These cleverly designed pajamas will actually help people who easily overheat stay cool at night

- Bedding company SHEEX first got its start making sheets that mimic the draping, feel, and moisture-wicking and quick-dry features of athletic performance wear.
- It has expanded into sleepwear, and its newest 828 Motion tees, joggers, dresses, and shorts ($49-$69) achieve comfort and functionality as impressively as its bedding.
- After personally trying the Long Sleeve Easy Tee ($59) and Modern Jogger ($64) for a few consecutive weeks, I can't go back to my old pajama ensemble.
An old college t-shirt and flannel bottoms are the unofficial uniform for countless people when they sleep, myself included — at least until a few weeks ago.
While endearing and nostalgic, this classic combination isn't always the most comfortable. Irritating stitching from graphic tees and pants that aren't breathable are a couple of the most noticeable flaws that prevent us from getting the best sleep possible.
No matter how great your mattress, sheets, and pillow are, if the fabrics directly touching your skin aren't optimized, you're still likely to have trouble sleeping. I recently tried some sleepwear from SHEEX that showed me the difference, and I haven't slept in anything else since.
SHEEX is a bedding company that was started by two University of South Carolina basketball coaches who loved the feel and functionality of athletic performance clothing and brought these features to bed sheets. As Insider Picks reporter Mara Leighton explains in her review of SHEEX's signature sheet set, the fabric transfers body heat up to twice as effectively as traditional cotton so you can sleep cooler, breathes nearly 50% better than cotton, and transfers heat and moisture better through evaporative cooling.
Now, SHEEX has brought its solutions nearly full-circle, not to athletic clothing, but to another important, though often overlooked piece of apparel: sleepwear. Its new 828 Motion Sleepwear line promises to move with you "From 8 PM to 8 AM" (and as I found out, even longer if you're having one of those weekends where you never leave the apartment).
I slept in the Long Sleeve Easy Tee and Modern Jogger (both pictured below) from this line and it's no exaggeration to say they're difficult to change out of every morning because they're so comfortable.
If you order it in your usual size, the Long Sleeve Tee is oversized and roomy, but with its dropped shoulders and curved hemline, it looks less sloppy than an oversized t-shirt. The Jogger is a stretchy slim fit pant that, unlike a regular pair of sweatpants, is lightweight and breathable.
None of the 828 Motion pieces have pesky tags to distract you as you're trying to fall asleep and they're all composed of the same 74% polyester, 18% lyocell, and 8% spandex blend. You'll recognize polyester for its wide uses in all types of clothing and spandex for giving your favorite pieces that comfortable stretch.
It's the lyocell that gives the sleepwear the soft touch and drape-ability that performance clothing is so known for. Even after having washed my Long Sleeve Tee and Jogger three times now, they're still just as smooth and comfortable as when I first tried them.
The special Sleep•Fit Technology also offers advanced thermoregulation to prevent you from waking up hot and sweaty. It's moisture-wicking, so if you tend to run hot when you sleep, this feature will be a huge boon. I live on the top floor of our apartment, so unusually warm temperatures are a real problem, even during the winter. Because of the thermoregulated fabric, however, I slept cool throughout the night.
828 Motion Sleepwear is sold for $49 to $69, which is probably more than what you're paying for your regular pajamas, but it's not an unusual price point compared to other athletics-inspired sleepwear out there. You can tell based on the fabric composition and feel that these pieces are durable and can last for years of sleeping and lounging.
If sleepwear is the final missing piece of the puzzle that is your perfect sleep setup, then this particular line is a reasonable investment to make, taking into account its softness, breathability, and thermoregulation abilities.
